Director of Human Resources 

  1. The Organization

Coptic Orphans is an award-winning Christian international development organization that has helped transform the lives of over 45,000 children in marginalized and underserved areas, aiding them in breaking the cycle of poverty.  As it continues to grow and expand its reach to orphaned and marginalized children, the organization is in search for a capable seasoned Human Resources Executive to bring synergy to, and function as part of the executive staff and partner in implementing strategies and organizational directions towards the organization's vision.

  1. Purpose of the Job

The Human Resources Director will play an integral role in advancing the next phase of the organization's growth and expansion.  The incumbent will be responsible for developing and executing human resource strategies in support of the overall mission and strategic direction, specifically in the areas of talent acquisition and management, employee relations, performance management, compensation, benefits and change management. The HR Director will provide strategic leadership by developing and articulating HR needs and plans, and serve as a strategic advisor to the executive management team.  The incumbent is to oversee all HR related functions across the organization to create and ensure a world-class workplace with a uniquely balanced, corporate culture. 

  1. Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Develop comprehensive, strategic plans for recruitment, staffing and retention to meet the organization's needs.
  • Partner with senior management to establish and implement HR policies, practices and programs to support the organization's mission, culture and strategic vision.
  • Function as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, directors and managers regarding key organizational, management and personnel matters.
  • Champion Coptic Orphans' commitment to promoting and maintaining a vibrant workforce by providing equal employment opportunities and maintaining an environment of inclusion.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive, cost-effective and competitive compensation and benefits plan that includes job grading and position structuring.
  • Lead, supervise and mentor HR personnel in all aspects of the HR function - creating an innovative, forward-thinking, 'best in class' Human Resources Team.
  • Develop and implement metrics for measuring employee and business unit performance.
  • Be a resource to employees regarding matters pertaining to performance, career objectives and professional development.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the industry, trends and legislation to ensure regulatory compliance with each countries' labor laws and regulations that govern International NGO's.
  • Build broad based support for ideas to improve HR and Organizational Development practices.
  • Develop and utilize flexibility, innovation and creativity in achieving strategic objectives.
  • Manage all personnel resource planning and develop the annual department budget.
  • Investigate claims of misconduct and escalate to legal team as appropriate.
  • Maintain and improve HRIS/HRM systems to meet the organization's daily needs.
  1. Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Director of Human Resources supervises all HR team personnel in the US Headquarters Office and the HR team personnel in the Egypt Office.
  1. Required Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills
  • Master's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Organizational Development or related field.
  • Leadership experience in fast-paced, dynamic environment, to include a minimum of 10 years in Human Resources Management.
  • Broad knowledge of core Human Resources functions with proven track record of success in positions requiring a strong mix of business skills, leadership abilities, strategic thinking and sound judgment in driving organizational effectiveness.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and problem solving skills; ability to build and sustain trust at all levels and offices in the organization.
  • Outstanding people skills; successful candidate must be proactive, creative, highly energetic, collaborative, collegial and promote an open-door environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Arabic and exposure to Coptic Culture are highly desirable and will be favorably considered.
  1. Fiscal Responsibilities (budgeting responsibilities, approval privileges on purchase orders and check requests, reporting and auditing functions)
  • Develop and manage annual department and personnel budgets for all country offices.
  1. Extent of Public Contact (within and outside the organization)
  • To post and promote positions incumbent will have frequent contact and communication with applicants, employment agencies, recruiters, universities, and other entities.  Thus, incumbent must fully comprehend the mission/vision/plan of the organization to communicate it to others.  
  1. Physical Demands (walking, lifting, carrying, etc.)
  • Limited to typical professional office work environment: sitting, typing, using phone, walking, and occasional lifting of boxes and luggage.
  1. Work Conditions and Environment (i.e., necessary travel, unusual work hours, etc.)
  • Requires some after-hours and/or weekend work as an exempt position.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary or helpful, including possible international trip(s).
