Training Specialist - Cairo, Egypt

Purpose of the Position:


The Training Specialist's position is created to carry out training designed within a framework that s/he develops or co-develops to accurately assess training needs of Coptic Orphans' volunteer representatives in the field. The incumbent is responsible for conducting extensive research to enhance the development of the training materials, ensuring staff and volunteers' training effectively improve their performance and ultimately contribute to greater success in improving program results for participants.  


Training is vital for the volunteer representatives, whose actions directly impact the lives of Coptic Orphans program participants. The Training Specialist must, therefore, be a resourceful professional with great people skills.  



Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Under editorial and strategic supervision: 

  1. Design or co-design and implement a system to effectively and regularly assess training needs in the field through various means that ensure accurate assessment, including regular field visits to all areas.  Participate in local field meetings to assess special needs in specific areas.
  2. Conduct research to develop and prepare training materials.
  3. Carry out training plans and conduct training sessions to field personnel, preparing them as trainers for the volunteer representatives.  Follow up to ensure training effectiveness and to address concerns.
  4. Organize, coordinate, facilitate, and plan workshops for program participants and their mothers in collaboration with field personnel.
  5. Maintain log of all training conducted and files of training materials.  Prepare quarterly and ad hock training report, and assist in gauging and measuring training effectiveness through training evaluation tools and feedback.
  6. Participate in orienting new volunteer representatives to assess needs and develop general training for all new representatives.
  7. Update and follow up on representative training attendance, using a database to track training activities and attendance, and address issues discovered through this tool.
  8. Perform other related duties and functions as assigned or appropriate.

Required Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Bachelor's degree in education, psychology or training related field with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience, 3 of which must be training focused.
  2. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and persuasion and people skills. Outstanding ability to motivate and engage audience, and sustain their attention and interest.
  3. Energetic and dynamic personality, yet demonstrated ability to listen actively and attentively.  Ability to and inspire others.
  4. Demonstrated ability to follow through meticulously and effectively at all times.
  5. Proven proficiency and excellent command of spoken and written English; fluency in Arabic.  Experience and effectiveness in English report writing.
  6. Passion for the work of the organization that can be communicated to others.
  7. Demonstrated research skills and experience, and knack for fact gathering.
  8. Ability and willingness to travel throughout Egypt as needed for training, (approximately 25% of the time.
  9. Ability to deliver information effectively to various levels of employees and management through training in creative and interesting manner.


Extent of Public Contact (within and outside the organization):

  • Extensive contact with office staff and management, as well as some external contact with community development organizations and volunteer representatives.


Working Conditions and Environment:

typical office environment, such as sitting, typing, using computer and office equipment; as well as travel throughout Egypt and possible occasional overseas travel.  May be required to work on after hours and weekends when necessary.
