Project Manager, Washington D.C.

 Purpose of the Job

Understanding the organizational mission and priorities, the Project Manager position in Coptic Orphans' Headquarters Office exists to place and implement project and initiatives to tie Diaspora youth to the homeland.  Specifically, to lead the Serve to Learn project.  The incumbent is expected to; analyze and report on the impact of the program on volunteers and participants, highly engage program alumni, and collaborating with colleagues and management work to further develop the program/project increasing its reach.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  1. Develop program goals, objectives, strategy and systems. Develop, plan, maintain, and evaluate program logistics including, timeline, budget, in-field implementation plan, outreach material, forms and documents, presentations to expand potential volunteer/beneficiaries' recruitment, and program orientation.
  2. Promote program through outreach trips, events, Coptic community engagement, university student organizations, program alumni and other means.
  3. Review applications, conduct reference checks, interviews applicants, and complete acceptance process (system and documentation) of qualified volunteers or participants. Communicate candidacy status to all applicants.
  4. Train and orient on; organizational and program philosophy, objectives, policies, expectations volunteer/participant responsibilities, in-field logistics, child protection and relevant legal/organizational policies, media use, etc., ensuring all participants are informed and effectively supported.
  5. Support Egypt Local Manager in implementation decisions such as budget, site selection, Local Manager training, volunteer placement, program schedule and activities, monitoring and assisting with travel logistics; and monitor program implementation.
  6. Collaborating with Communications Department in gathering, developing, and reviewing media and online content for program promotion and information publishing or dissemination.
  7. Evaluate impact, conduct debriefings, collect and analyze volunteers/beneficiaries and staff feedback for future improvements & development.
  8. Document, update and maintain all relevant program data and generate documentation of implementation and associated outcome reports.
  9. Maintain program alumni engagement through outreach, events, and bolstering the academic and professional benefits of the program participation. Research methods of program expansion, avenues of collaboration, and stronger impact.  Create program campaign records on Raiser's' Edge and maintain volunteer records along with Donor Relations.
  10. Maintain, update, and implement program Manual(s).

  • N/A

Knowledge and Skills

  • Master's degree and 15 years' experience in human development, Project Management, or similar field.
  • Outstanding communication, persuasion, and interpersonal skills. High integrity, volunteer management and leadership skills a must.
  • Excellent speaking/writing/reading of English and Arabic. Being versed in the Coptic culture is a must.
  • Proven organizational skills and abilities, and attention to detail.
  • Follow-through skills and ability to efficiently coordinate multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Word and Excel in a Microsoft Windows environment.

Fiscal Responsibilities (budgeting responsibilities, approval privileges on purchase orders and check requests, reporting and auditing functions)

  • May participate in developing small projects/program budget

Extent of Public Contact (within and outside the organization)

  • The Serve to Learn Project Manager is a point of contact for volunteers, speaks with organization donors and sponsors, potential recruits, as well as agencies and organizations that collaborate or contribute to the program. S/he must fully comprehend and understand the mission, vision and plan of the organization.

Physical Demands (walking, lifting, carrying, etc.)

  • Mainly office work environment; sitting, typing, walking and occasional lifting of boxes and luggage. During program implementation there will be climbing stairs, extensive walking, and general physical demands of leading a service trip.

Work Conditions and Environment (i.e., necessary travel, unusual work hours, etc.)

  • Must be available for work during some evening and/or some weekend as necessary. Work requires some domestic and international, at least twice a year during program implementation. In-field work includes: rural travel, simple accommodations and meals, and long work days.
