Senior Program Associate, Washington D.C.

 Purpose of the Job

The Senior Program Associate plays an important role in directly supporting the Programs Director in the oversight of the monitoring and evaluation processes in the Programs Department to assist in furthering the organization's mission and reach to support its participants.  Among the programs to be supported are: Not Alone, the Valuable Girl Project, B'edaya and potentially others. The Senior Program Associate will also be responsible for coordinating the work between Programs teams in DC and Cairo; i.e. Program Associates in HQ on one side and Program Managers and Program Specialists in the Cairo office on the other. This position offers a great potential for career growth for an inquisitive professional with strong analytical skills and a strong research background.  

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • In coordination with Program Managers in Egypt, monitor programs implementation and report on major milestones and achievements as well as areas needing further evaluation and/or adjustments.
  • Report regularly to Programs Director on the overall performance of programs, issues in program implementation in the field and recommend and follow through the execution of practical solutions
  • Develop and manage dashboards for all programs to include tracking, recording, and visually analyzing data in order to communicate findings and producing analytical reports that reflect programs key performance indicators and statistics based on the established Results Framework for each program.
  • Support Programs Director in developing, writing, and reviewing grant proposals and submitting to major donors such as USAID and State Department. This also requires the candidate to be ready to support Programs Director during meeting and presentations to Donors as needed.
  • Follow through required processes and procedures to report to Donors and respond to their questions during grant implementation.
  • Perform any needed tasks to administer grants, implement relevant Monitoring and Evaluation measures and produce periodical reports on progress and issues.
  • Oversee updates of programs materials and maintain the Arabic and English versions of program manuals.
  • Travel to the Egypt field office to monitor activities approximately 2 months a year and produce briefs for Programs Director.
  • Spearhead and coordinate the production of annual reports for all programs, as well as monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc reports as needed or appropriate.
  • Assist Programs Director in finalizing annual budgets for programs as well as brainstorming on strategy and vision for each program
  • Perform other related functions as per the guidance of the Programs Director and as necessary.

Knowledge and Skills

  • MA in international development, economics, education, or closely related field.
  • Minimum 6 years work experience in monitoring and evaluation of human development programs.
  • Experience in writing, reviewing and submitting grant proposals to donors in the international development context.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Results-oriented with creative problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple tasks/projects efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize, and work under tight deadlines. 
  • A team player with excellent cross-cultural written and oral communication skills.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic - written as well as spoken.
  • Knowledge of transformational development values and techniques.

  • Extensive contacts with potential funding entities.
  • Regular attendance of public events, brown bag lunches, and other related events.

 Physical Demands (walking, lifting, carrying, etc.)

  • Typical office work environment in addition to some domestic travel; limited to sitting, typing, using the phone and office equipment, walking, driving and occasional lifting of boxes and/or luggage during travel.
  • Occasional international travel.

 Working Conditions and Environment (i.e., necessary travel, unusual work hours, etc.)

  • Must be available to travel to Egypt.
