Egypt - Project Specialist (Be'daya)

Purpose of the Job

Be'daya is a micro-lending initiative launched by Coptic Orphans in order to support mothers of fatherless children in either starting new small businesses or expanding existing ones, with the ultimate goal of supporting their children through education. The Project Specialist's role is to provide technical, logistical and administrative support and coordination to support the implementation of Be'daya project.  The incumbent would facilitate, coordinate and organize project activities and support management and staff in managing micro-loans to rewarded recipients. To achieve this goal, the incumbent must be well versed in evaluating business proposals, coaching and guiding owners of micro-businesses in running their projects, as well conducting quality control activities in the field and creatively resolving issues and mitigating business risks.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    1. Support Management in planning and implementation of assigned projects; assist in project design and data collection via forms and tools to ensure proper implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
    2. Support management in the evaluation and selection of business proposals.
    3. Design and implement training and capacity building for office and field staff on various tasks related to managing and evaluating micro-loans.
    4. Supervise and participate in training workshops for Mothers and provide regular technical support and coaching as needed.
    5. Review and report on budgets submitted by mothers
    6. Compile and record data from forms, report on all activities of assigned tasks, maintain and organize project data, and keep hard copy files as appropriate.
    7. Report and follow up on various project activities, prepare monthly, quarterly and ad hock reports as needed, and provide management with relevant information.
    8. In communication with management, coordinate project activities with field team during visits to business sites.
    9. Provide Communications Department and management with information for Annual Reports, news releases, and other information such as stories, challenges, needs and statistics.
    10. Update and maintain the Project Manuals and similar documentation as necessary, ensuring manuals are regularly and timely updated to reflect changes and directions from management at HQ Office.
    11. Provide administrative and logistical support to Programs Department, such as correspondence with external partners, setting meeting agenda and taking minutes, arranging and preparing for training and other events.
    12. Assist management in monitoring and reporting on project budgets and costs.
    13. Perform other relevant tasks and functions as required or necessary.

 Required Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  1. BA in Human Development, economics, education or a closely related field.
  2. Minimum of 5 years' experience in managing, monitoring and evaluating micro-lending projects.
  3. Excellent command of English at proficiency level in both, written and spoken.
  4. Outstanding communication; strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with all levels of staff and management within the organization as well as external partners or vendors, all within a spirit of service.
  5. Excellent organizational skills in thought process and time management as well as ability to prioritize and be ahead of deadlines to manage expectations in a fast-paced environment with changing demands.
  6. Proven high level of accuracy and attention to details and problem-solving skills.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal direction, and work well as part of a team.

Fiscal Responsibilities (budgeting responsibilities, approval privileges on purchase orders and check requests, reporting and auditing functions)

Review and assistance with relevant expense reports as directed

Extent of Public Contact (within and outside the organization)

Regular daily contact with Cairo Office, field staff, and HQ office; frequent contacts with external partners such as volunteer reps, CDA's, vendors and other organizations.

 

Physical Demands (walking, lifting, carrying, etc.)

Limited to typical office environment such as walking, sitting, typing, using office equipment, and occasional lifting of boxes or luggage during travel.       

  

 Working Conditions and Environment (i.e., necessary travel, unusual work hours, etc.)

Travel throughout Egypt may reach as much as 50% of the times.
